Then Let The Copyright Law Be Gone!

Just a point of musing here.  The internet is all agog over President Obama’s apparent channeling of Elizabeth Warren’s argument that a small business didn’t achieve “success” on its own.  Pure politics driven by pure ideology to be sure; but no business owner assumes that they didn’t need the streets, electricity, police and such to create an environment to succeed.  But they also would point out that they paid for all of that through the many ways the city, state and federal government taxes them.

OK, so what? I was just thinking about the idea of copyright law and the constant battle by RIAA to sue anyone downloading music, movies or programs.  The Obama administration has defended the RIAA and it is the RIAA’s argument that this is intellectual property and has been created by brilliant minds.  But to my way of thinking, if our president is correct then this assertion must not be true.  In fact, no songwriter, movie producer, or programmer got successful on their own.  Without the police to protect, the government to keep roads built, and the FCC to keep the airwaves safe and available where would they be?  All of this is upon the backs of us taxpayers.

So, I move that we either make all intellectual property free for all, or we taxes the living daylights out of the music, movie and software businesses.  Because, let’s face it, they didn’t do it on their own.

Oh, and if you are not aware, this is satire.
