Blackout Central

As most people know, India has a massive power outage affecting almost three quarter of a billion people.  Let that number sink in and it will stun you.  Well, here is a photo essay that gives you a sense of the problems caused by this outage and some of the reasons behind it.  #2, 8 and 24 are brutal.

What the article didn’t say, Matt, is that India has been scaling back on its coal fired power stations because of global warming and CO2 emissions, so they don’t have enough generating capacity. The US is headed for the same plight as 57 coal fired power stations are slated for closer this year alone under the Barackalypse’s energy plan. What we can learn from this is that renewable and sustainable energy substitutes won’t make the shortfall of energy shortsightedness.
